“In this music newspaper, we wanted to explore what silence could look like in graphic form. Is it Lorem Ipsum, with its nonsensical Latin representing emptiness? Or is it the layout of an InDesign document, existing only as a background until we fill it with content?”
“Tacet is Latin which translates literally into English as (it) is silent. It is a musical term to indicate that an instrument or voice does not sound, also known as a rest. Silence, always working in the background to create the music we listen to, can be approached in different ways. In some cases, like that of the American composer John Cage, whose performance 4’33” is one continuous silence.
